Respiration

The respiration from the litter, faeces and humus pools, C_{Litter1 and 2→CO2}, C_Faeces→CO2 and C_Humus→CO2 are based on the estimated consumption rate of the microbes with their efficiency explicitly taken into account:

where f_e,m and f_cons,l1 are the same parameters as in eq. (6.9), f(CN_l1) and f(C_Litter1) are response functions and M_potcons is the potential microbial consumption as defined above. The response functions equal unity for the respiration flux from the humus pool.

The respiration in the microbial biomass is calculated as:

where k_m,resp is a parameter and f(A_cons) is the response function for abiotic influence on microbial consumption described above.
